Parking for Process Cook Off!

If you are attending the process cook off tomorrow (which we know you are!), there is limited parking in the parking lot. We share the space with a super cool Mac repair store, Screwbox, and they serve customers all day long, fixing their Mac’s while they wait. Even if the parking lot has room when you arrive, customers are in and out all day. We want to respect their customers and their business.

Parking is available on Tampa street via meters OR you can park in the pre-pay parking lot across the street.

We’ll have scones, coffee for starters and chili, salad and other fixin’s for lunch!

We are gonna have some Yum and Fun!

The HDYI: How Do You Innovate? team is opening our office, our processes, and our culinary skills for a Process “Cook Off”. Nathan Schwagler and Michelle Malott are going to don their creative thinking and innovation tools to razzle dazzle anyone who wants to watch, participate and have fun in some comfy chairs. We’re also bringing some delicious food stuffs (including some Amazing Tofu Chili)! Come to learn, or just for kicks. If you are interested, show up! Influencer Project Sketchnotes

HDYI, www.HowDoYouInnovate.com, created these sketchnotes during the Influencer Project conference. http://InfluencerProject.com is the shortest marketing conference featuring 60 thoughts leaders in 60 minutes. Each speaker had 60 seconds to present top tips for creating influence via the web. The conference was presented by ThoughtLead (www.thoughtlead.com). Their mission is to “Spread important ideas using the web”. These are sketchnotes respresenting the key concept from each speaker. The conference was pretty awesome. Here are the first “15 minutes”.

Why am I so fired up?

Aside from the obvious (in no specific order):

We need to see, think, do, be different to continue to make this world and ourselves better.
Visual thinking, images, are the most direct tool for motivating feelings, beliefs and behaviors immediately both positive & negative.
We need to devise the most direct and effective ways to compete in the global (or even local) market.
Visual thinking provides an increased capacity to solve problems.
Innovation is a process applied when needing to solve problems, from the simple to the complex.
When visual thinking merges with innovation the problem is easier to define and solve.
Visual Thinking and innovation are collaborative by nature exposing us to new perspectives and ways of thinking.

On October 28th, 2008, at the Sarasota International Design Summit I encountered aVizThink crowd. Dave Gray of XPLANE, Tom Crawford of VizThink, and Tom Wujec of Autodesk. I have been a student and practitioner of the practical applications of the innovation process to solve business problems for a little over 2 years (the application of the creative process in business for approximately 10-and yes there is a difference). Their information rocked my world. I got so excited I immediately signed up for VizThink conference 2009. What I have experienced over the past 6 months has been nothing less than an awakening and riding the wave of what I belief is one of the most significant movements of our time.

I invite you to join the exploration. Ride this wave with me. Maybe even help me chart the course.

Art = Innovation

Creativity is a habit. Innovation is a process. When the habit and the process are mastered, the result is a work of art. The experience is true for both the user, and the innovator (or innovation team). Case in Point: This is Lucky Spot. The installation art work by Stella McCartney reminds me of the emotional effect of innovation in our lives. The symbolic strength of the horse, crafted in complex, precisely installed, and delicate Swarovski Crystals, elevates the experience of the Belsay Castle while providing enough intimacy for the viewer to develop a personal conversation with the work.

In essence, by helping the viewer see the Belsay Castle in a new way, bridging the gap between medieval historical significance and contemporary relevance, fragile as that bridge may be, this innovation realizes its value. And realized value is the difference between creativity (good ideas) and innovation (exceptional follow through). The real indicator of an innovation? We feel a little better, smarter or even cooler, for having gotten to use, experience, be in the presence of the innovation at hand. And doesn’t that make us lucky?
